Last night as I typed away on my computer longer than I should have, Libby came in, put one paw on the arm of my chair, then one paw on my back and looked at me very intently as if to say, “OK mom, I think that’s enough for tonight.”
It can be so easy to get carried away with the busyness of work and home and the demands of all the different devices we have beeping at us all day long. And it can be tough to break our concentration long enough to we set everything aside and just let ourselves sit with our own thoughts. That can be a very scary place to be. Because those thoughts create feelings and our feelings can be very overwhelming at times.
Every now and then we need someone to come alongside, put a hand (or paw) on our shoulder and wake us up from our distracted daze and remind us to take time to just BE. Sometimes that is a child or a spouse or a friend or even that still small voice of God nudging us to unplug, get quiet and just listen. And when we learn to tune in, oh the adventure in store for us!
