This past week I read the book The Gap and the Gain and was struck by an interesting thought:
Avoiding Failure Does Not Equal Success.
Many of us live in such fear of failure that we give up on our goals before we even start.
And let’s be honest. Life has a way of knocking the wind out of us from time to time which can make us a little hesitant to pick ourselves up and try again.
Sometimes it just feels safer to not want too much, to not strive too much, too not risk too much, to live our life in neutral.
But don’t mistake being in neutral for being in drive.
When it comes to living life, being in neutral generally beats being in reverse, but the only way you’re going forward is under some power outside yourself. Whether it’s someone coming along to give you a shove or relying on the slope of the road, your decisions are limited.
There is risk associated with shifting into drive and moving forward.
You will encounter obstacles. You might get lost. You might not get where you planned on going. You might even crash.
But you will also learn and grow. You’ll have experiences and see sights you never imagined. You’ll still make mistakes, but you’ll have the confidence to keep going.
Success isn’t the absence of failure. Success is simply the willingness to keep going in the face of failure.
If fear of failure is keeping you from pursuing your goals and dreams, I’d love to help you shift out of neutral and put yourself firmly into the driver’s seat of your own life. See details below to schedule your free coaching session.
